Chandra Barot was a producer and director who worked in Hindi as well as Bengali films. He was born and raised in Tanzania, and worked as a banker before moving to India to pursue a career in cinema by joining actor-director Manoj Kumar as assistant director. His big break came when he directed the 1978 blockbuster film ‘Don’ starring Amitabh Bachchan, Zeenat Aman and Pran. He later directed ‘Pyar Bhara Dil’ (1991), ‘Hum Baja Bajaa Denge’ (2015) and the Bengali film ‘Ashrita’ (1990). He passed away at the age of 86 in Mumbai on 20 July 2025.
