Jamuna Barua was the leading actress in Indian cinema in the 1930s and 1940s. She was married to the legendary Indian actor and filmmaker, Pramathesh Chandra Barua. Pramathesh cast her as the lead character Parvati/Paro in his 1936 film Devdas, which marked the start of her acting career in Bollywood. She then appeared in several movies like Adhikar (1939), Hindustan Humara (1940), Jawab (1942), Rani (1943) and Devar (1943). After the death of her husband in 1950, she gave up on her acting career.
