Kamlesh Awasthi was a famous playback singer who primarily worked in Gujarati as well as Hindi language films. Known as the voice of Mukesh, Kamlesh started his playback singing career in Gujarati cinema where he sang numerous songs before getting a break in Hindi films. His first hit song was ‘Zindagi Imtihaan Leti Hai’ from ‘Naseeb’ (1981) which was followed by songs like ‘Tera Saath Hai Toh’ (Pyaasa Sawan), ‘Cheen Nahin Japan Nahin’ (Gopichand Jasoos), and ‘Oonch Neech Beech’ (1989). Till his later years he actively performed in stage shows, earning him a reputation in the regional music scene. He breathed his last at the age of 78 at his residence in Ahmedabad on 28 March 2024.
