Meena Kumari was one of the best Indian actresses. She was popularly known as ‘The Tragedy Queen’ because of her emotional roles and dialogue delivery style. Her career spanned from 1939 to 1972, and in these 33 years, she appeared in over 90 films. She started her acting career in Bollywood as a child artist in the 1939 film Leatherface. Her most notable works include Baiju Bawra (1952), Foot Path (1953), Parineeta (1953), Dil Apna Aur Preet Parai (1960), Sahib Bibi Aur Ghulam (1962), Aarti (1962), Dil Ek Mandir (1963), Kaajal (1965), Mere Apne (1971), and Pakeezah (1972). She married a famous Indian filmmaker, Kamal Amrohi, who directed her movie Pakeezah. However, the two separated after 12 years of marriage. She was at the peak of her career in 1972 when she became seriously ill and died shortly afterwards.
