Ruby Mayers, popularly known by her stage name Sulochana, was a famous Bollywood actress of the silent era. She had Jewish ancestry and because of her non-Indian looks, she became one of the highest paying actresses of her time. She started her career with the 1926 film Cinema Queen. Some of her popular works include Typist Girl (1926), Balidan (1927), Wildcat of Bombay (1927), Shair (1949), Baaz (1953), Amrapali (1966) and many more. She was never reported to marry, but adopted a girl and named her Sarah Myers. In 1973, the government of India awarded her the Dada Saheb Phalke Award for her contributions to Indian cinema.
