Born in the Anand-Sahni family, Shekhar Kulbhushan Kapur is an Indian filmmaker, actor, television presenter and entrepreneur. Recipient of several accolades, including National Film Award, Kapur started his career in Bollywood as an actor with the 1975 film Jaan Hazir Hai. He has also appeared in several television dramas. He made his directorial debut with the 1983 film Masoom (1983), starring Naseeruddin Shah and Shabana Azmi. Other important films directed by him include Mr. India (1987), Bandit Queen (1994), etc. He was first married to Medha Gujral, niece of former Indian Prime Minister I. K. Gujral, but the two divorced in 1994. In 1999, he married actress Suchitra Krishnamoorthi, and the couple have a daughter named Kaveri Kapur, but they too divorced in 2007.
