Suchitra Sen was an Indian actress who was active in Hindi cinema in the 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s. She made her acting debut in Bollywood with the 1955 Bimay Roy’s period drama Devdas, which was inspired by Sharat Chandra Chattopadhyay’s novel ’Devdas’, she played the lead character – Parvati or Paro in the movie. She was most active in Bengali films, however, some of her important Hindi films include Musafir (1957), Bombai Ka Babu (1960), Mamta (1966), and Aandhi (1975). She is the recipient of several awards and was also honoured with Padma Shri by the Government of India. In 1947, she married Dibanath Sen, the son of industrialist Adinath Sen, and the couple had a daughter, actress Moon Moon Sen.
