Suman Kalyanpur was a playback singer who lent her voice to many language films including Marathi, Assamese, Oriya, Punjabi, Gujarati, Rajasthani and others. Born in 1937 in Dhaka, she began her singing journey in 1954 and went on to become one of India's most admired voices, recording songs in multiple languages. Over a career spanning more than three decades, she collaborated with celebrated composers and legendary singers, delivering timeless classics that continue to resonate with audiences. Honoured with the Padma Bhushan in 2023, Kalyanpur leaves behind a rich musical legacy and is survived by her daughter, Charul Agny. She passed away on 31 May 2026 at her Mumbai residence due to age-related ailments. She was 89.
