Suraiya Jamal Sheikh, popularly known as Suraiya, was a famous Bollywood actress and playback singer of the 1940s and 1950s. She was known as Malika-e-Husn (queen of beauty), Malika-e-Tarannum (queen of melody) and Malika-e-Adakari (queen of acting), who acted in 67 films and sang 338 songs in a career span of almost three decades. She started her acting career as a child artist in Jaddanbai’s Madame Fashion in 1936. Other important movies of her career are Taj Mahal (1941), Phool (1945), Anmol Ghadi (1946), Parwana (1947), Singaar (1949), Amar Kahani (1949), etc. She started singing in the movies at the age of 12 or 13 and some of her hit songs were ‘Bistar Bicha Liya Hai’ in Hamari Beti (1943), ‘Rani Khol De Dawar’ in Tadbir (1945), ‘Yaad Karun tori batiyan’ in Mr. Lambu (1956) and many more.
