Tamal Roy Choudhury was theatre, television and film actor who began his artistic journey in theatre, where he built a strong foundation as an actor and nurtured a lifelong passion for the stage. Over the years, he expanded his career into Bengali television and cinema, becoming a familiar face to audiences across the state. From the mid-1990s, he appeared in numerous television serials, often portraying memorable supporting characters. Alongside television, he acted in several Bengali films spanning different genres. His film credits include popular titles like ‘Challenge’, ‘Le Halua Le’, ‘Bindass’, ‘Amazon Obhijaan’, and ‘Chander Pahar’. He also featured in critically acclaimed films such as Jatiswar and Gorosthane Sabdhan, showcasing his versatility and strength as a character actor. Some of the Hindi films where he featured were in ‘City of Joy’ (1992), ‘Bada Din’ (1998) and ‘The Namesake’ (2006). He passed away on 9 March 2026 at the age of 80.
