A remake of the 2016 Spanish film Contratiempo, Badla is a thriller suspense drama about a young entrepreneur woman, Naina (Taapsee Pannu) who finds herself locked in a hotel room beside the dead body of her lover. To prove her innocence she hires the services of a prestigious lawyer, Badal Gupta (Amitabh Bachchan) who tries to defend her. Will the truth be revealed, will Naina be proved guilty or innocent?
