Gold takes us back into history when India post-independence won its first Olympic Gold in Hockey in 1948. Tapan Das (Akshay Kumar) manager of the Gold winning Indian hockey team dreams to build a team post Independence after major players shift to Pakistan. He manages to build a team by getting the best talent in the sport from all corners of India despite opposition from the Indian Hockey Federation. The sports drama unfolds as India reaches the final to win the gold and play the national anthem for the first time in the Olympics.
