Hum Tumhein Chahte Hain is a romantic drama about Surya (Janmejaya), a gym instructor who encounters Maya (Rituparna Sengupta), a regular patron at the gym. Surya and Maya fall in love as the latter narrates her bitter divorce from Mayapati (Govind Namdeo), a corrupt politician. Despite Maya being much elder than Surya they continue their relationship while she offers him a job at her own company. Surya’s young neighbour Vaani (Anusmriti Sarkar) who is in love with the former implies that Maya is not the right girl for him due to their age difference. The tension of being caught between two women – one older and the other younger – takes a toll on Surya as he is diagnosed with cancer.
