Hurdang is a social political romantic drama set in 1990 against the backdrop of the agitation among students in Allahabad (today’s Prayagraj) when the infamous Mandal Commission report was to be implemented.The story revolves around Daddu Thakur (Sunny Kaushal) who is one of the regular college going students aspiring to become an IAS officer. More than concentrating on his exams he is looking to get the exam paper ahead of time and ensuring his girlfriend Jhullan (Nushratt Bharuccha) is not married off to someone else. Daddu’s brash, loud and violent attitude leads him to get involved in college politics on the behest of Loha (Vijay Varma), the local leader who makes him believe that the formers IAS aspirations will be thwarted if the new caste-based reservations recommended by the Mandal Commission is implemented. What does Daddu do, does he take up the hard way to fulfil his dreams or go the other way?
