Lakeerein is a social courtroom drama set in a city of Uttar Pradesh that depicts Kavya's (Tia Bajpai) struggle as she seeks justice against her husband, Vivek Damodar Agnihotri (Gaurav Chopra), for the horrible act of marital rape. Kavya's battle for justice challenges our legal system’s societal norms which advocates for the recognition of Marital Rape as Crime. Fighting on behalf of Kavya is Advocate Geeta Biswas (Bidita Bag) who is pitted against Advocate Dudhari Singh (Ashutosh Rana) defending Vivek Damodar Agnihotri. Kavya’s fight against injustice calls into question society's moral ideals and its proclivity to recognise marital rape as a crime.
