Mandali is a social comedy drama set in the town of Mathura, Uttar Pradesh which tells the story of Purshottam Chaubey aka Puru (Abhishek Duhan) and his cousin Sitaram Chaubey (Ashwath Bhatt) who are trained to portray Lord Laxman and Lord Ram in the Ramleela Mandali, led by Sitaram's father Ramsevak Chaubey (Vineet Kumar). Ramsevak firmly believes in staging Ramleela based on the path shown by Lord Ram and opposes any vulgarity and crass commercialization of the sacred act, emphasizing authenticity and purity. Things take a tragic turn when they are forced to abandon it due to Sitaram's inadvertent mistake where Lord Ram’s name is tarnished during an act. Ramsevak disbands the Mandali and quits Ramleela forever as an atonement. Puru, however, in the wake of challenging Ramsevak's decision is fired and made to start his own Mandali. How Puru struggles to uphold righteousness in times of diminishing social conscience and downfall of cultural and traditional values forms the remaining part of the plot.
