Masterji is a comedy romantic drama. The movie revolves around a village belle, Radha (Sridevi), daughter of Jamnadas. Radha falls in love with the new school teacher, masterji (Rajesh Khanna), in her village; however, he is a widower and father of a toddler. She manages to trick him to get married to her. Things go well for a while, until she realises that her husband likes his colleague Shobha (Anita Raj). How the couple deals with the ups and downs of their marriage forms the rest of the plot.
