Mrs. Chatterjee Vs Norway is a story based on true events and an adaptation based on Sagarika Chakraborty’s autobiography titled ‘The Journey Of A Mother’. The story is that of an Indian Bengali couple named Anurup Chatterjee (Anirban Bhattacharya) and Debika Chatterjee (Rani Mukerji) who stay in Norway along with their two infant kids. The couple develop clashes between them disturbing the harmony within the family while their children are taken away from them by the Norwegian welfare services. The couple claim that the separation from their children was a violation of their parental rights and cultural values and further defend themselves saying that they were following common Indian parenting practices which the Norwegian authorities misinterpreted and considered negligent. How Debika Chatterjee, an immigrant Indian mother fights the Norwegian foster care system and legal machinery to win back the custody of her children, forms the remaining part of this intriguing story.
