Mumbai Se Aaya Mera Dost is a romantic action drama. The movie opens to Dinanath Singh (Sneha Lakhia) being honoured by the Indian Government. With his efforts, the government agrees to provide electricity in his village after years. Soon after, Dinanath’s grandson Kanji (Abhishek Bachchan), who lives in Mumbai, returns to the village with a satellite dishand TV. Villagers are thrilled with the TV shows and soon a change is seen in their lifestyle. All these changes don'tplease the village priest (Akhilendra Mishra), who goes to Chotey Thakur Rudra Pratap Singh (Yashpal Sharma) to eradicate this distraction from villager’s life. Rudra doesn’t care initially, however, when he realises that his sister Kesi (Lara Dutta) and Kanji are in love with each other, he knows he needs to do something. What effect will Rudra’s actions have on the life of villagers? Will they be forced to go back to their usual ways, or will they stand up for themselves?
