Pinjar is a period drama based on the Punjabi novel of the same name written by Amrita Pritam. It is set in the time of 1947 partition and follows the story of a young woman named Puro (Urmila Matondkar). A man named Rashid (Manoj Bajpayee) has an ancestral dispute with Puro’s family and to take revenge he abducts Puro. Somehow, Puro manages to escape and return to her family. However, her family disowns her and because of no support, she returns to Rashid and the two get married. During the partition, the riots broke out. In one such riot, Lajjo (Sandali Sinha), wife of Puro brother Trilok (Priyanshu Chatterjee), gets caught. Puro, with Rashid’s assistance, is able to help Lajjo escape, and Puro and Trilok have an emotional reunion, where Trilok offers to take her with him. However, Puro is moved seeing Rashid’s loyalty towards and realises how much he loves her. Will Puro be able to forgive Rashid for his past actions, and move on with him?
