Shararat is a family comedy drama. The movie follows the story of Rahul Khanna (Abhishek Bachchan), the son of a wealthy industrialist Niranjan Khanna (Romesh Sharma), who has no time for his son. One day, Rahul is stuck in traffic and he decides to meddle with the traffic lights, which gets him in trouble and he is arrested for the crime, and even his father is unable to bribe the police officer. DCP Bhosle (Om Puri), who arrested Rahul, decides to teach him a lesson, and comes up with a unique punishment for Rahul, which is community service. Rahul is forced to help the people at an old-age home as part of his punishment. Initially reluctant about it, Rahul soon starts to enjoy his time there and finds a reason to reform.
