Based on the novel written by Shivmurti, Tarpan: The Salvation is a social drama, which highlights the ill-treatment meted out to the lower caste people in India to date. The tale is set in one of India’s northern villages where a young minor girl named Rajpatiya (Padmaja Roy) is raped brutally by a local philanderer named Chander belonging to a dominant caste. On knowing about the crime Rajpatiya’s father lodges a complaint with the police but the police fail to take any action against the culprits. The opposition party leaders make it a political issue while the victim’s father is made a scapegoat. Will Rajpatiya get justice, will Chander be punished for his act, all this leads to an interesting climax.
