The Tenant is a romantic drama set in a conservative apartment in Mumbai suburb when Meera (Shamita Shetty), a beautiful cosmopolitan young lady who moves in next door. Meera’s arrival in the society immediately causes a stir among the residents to know who she is. Bharat (Rudraksh Jaiswal), a 13-year-old boy who happens to be Meera’s neighbour is undergoing the hardship of his parents’ marriage which is in crisis. Bharat’s building’s friends including Rocky, constantly torment him for being too girly but he is drawn towards Meera and pursues an unlikely friendship with her despite the age gap. Meera, lonely and vulnerable, finds Bharat’s innocence a welcome change in a society where young single women are made an object of desire. When she introduces Bharat to jazz and teaches him how to dance with a woman, he glimpses a world of possibilities where he stumbles upon Meera’s secret past and is thrust headlong into adulthood.
