The Vvaan follows the story of Rishi (Sidharth Malhotra), a Mumbai-based man whose return to his ancestral village sets off a chain of events that plunges the community into chaos. Living with his wife, Mamta (Tamannaah Bhatia), Rishi has stayed away from his hometown, Devanchal, for years despite his brother (Anup Soni) inviting him every year for Chhath Puja. This time, however, Rishi decides to return after receiving a summons concerning the acquisition of his ancestral land. A proposed road through the forest near the village has sparked fierce opposition from the locals, who believe the woods are home to the mysterious Van Devi and refuse to enter after sunset for fear of angering her. Rishi dismisses their beliefs as superstition and supports Deepak (Sunil Grover), who is involved in the road development project. His stance creates a rift with his sister-in-law, Sushila (Shweta Tiwari), who wants him to relinquish his share of the ancestral property, accusing him of doing little for the family or village. Determined to prove that the villagers' fears are nothing more than blind faith, Rishi ventures into the forest after sunset. What he encounters there changes everything and sets the stage for the events that follow.
