The Lok Sabha Elections 2024 were finally over on 4 June 2024 when the results were declared but not without their usual share of drama, controversies and confusion. As expected, these elections too had their share of glamour with many film stars and celebrities contesting from various regions of India where a handful of them emerged as winners beating their close rivals. Bollywood witnessed its share of celebrity actors and actresses who won in Lok Sabha Elections by big margins and will be representing their constituencies in the Parliament. Here's the list of 9 Bollywood celebrity winners of Lok Sabha Elections 2024.
1. Arun Govil (BJP - Meerut)
Best known for portraying Lord Rama in Ramanand Sagar’s ‘Ramayana TV series', actor Arun Govil eventually won from Uttar Pradesh's Meerut constituency on a BJP ticket. He emerged triumphant by defeating Samajwadi party candidate Sunita Verma by over 10000 votes. He had previously acted in films like Sawan Ko Aane Do (1979), Saanch Ko Aanch Nahin (1979), Jiyo To Aise Jiyo (1981), Shraddhanjali (1981), Himmatwala (1983), Dilwaala (1986), Article 370 (2024) and others.
2. Hema Malini (BJP - Mathura)
Bollywood’s 'Dream Girl', Hema Malini exhibited her political prowess by winning the Mathura constituency for the third consecutive time. One of the most popular Bollywood Lok Sabha MP’s of 2024 who won by a staggering margin of 2,93,407 votes by beating Congress candidate Mukesh Dhanger. She is known for playing the lead in many hit films like Johny Mera Naam, Andaz, Seeta Aur Geeta, Sholay, Charas, Trishul, Satte Pe Satta, Razia Sultan and many others.
3. Ravi Kishan (BJP - Gorakhpur)
Bhojpuri and Bollywood actor Ravi Kishan won from Uttar Pradesh's Gorakhpur constituency for the second term by defeating Samajwadi Party's Kajal Nishad by over 1 lakh votes. Ravi Kishan started his acting career in Bollywood with Aag Ka Toofaan in 1993 and thereafter in films like Udhaar Ki Zindagi, Zakhmi Dil, Army, Kudrat, Tere Naam, Aan: Men At Work, Phir Hera Pheri, Luck and Laapataa Ladies.
4. Shatrughan Sinha (TMC - Asansol)
Actor-turned-politician Shatrughan Sinha was among the many Bollywood film stars who won in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Contesting from the Asansol constituency, West Bengal on a Trinamool Congress ticket, he defeated BJP's S.S. Ahluwalia by a margin of 59,564 votes. He is known for many hit films including Mere Apne, Bombay To Goa, Kalicharan, Vishwanath, Kaala Patthar, Dostana, Shaan, Naseeb, Khudgarz, etc.
5. Kangana Ranaut (BJP - Mandi)
Bollywood celebrities’ election 2024 would be incomplete without mentioning top star Kangana Ranaut who won Himachal Pradesh's Mandi seat on a BJP ticket by defeating her main opposition candidate from Congress, Vikramaditya Singh by over 74755 votes. Kangana marked her acting debut in the 2006 thriller flick Gangster, and thereafter portrayed intense characters in films such as Woh Lamhe…, Fashion, Krrish 3, Queen, Tanu Weds Manu, Rangoon, Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi, Panga, Dhaakad and Tejas.
6. Rachana Banerjee (TMC - Hooghly)
One of the surprising results of Lok Sabha elections 2024 was the defeat of BJP’s heavy-weight candidate Locket Chatterjee who lost to Bengali actress Rachana Banerjee by over 60,000 votes. Rachana Banerjee is known for acting in popular Bengali films like Amodhini (1994), Pordeshi Babu (1999), Memsaheb (2003), Goyenda Gogol (2013) and Ram Baloram (2008). She has also acted in Oriya, Kannada, Tamil, Telugu and Hindi films. Her solo Bollywood film was the Amitabh Bachchan starrer, Sooryavansham (1999).
7. Satabdi Roy (TMC - Birbhum)
Bengali and Hindi actress Satabdi Roy defeated BJP's Debtanu Bhattacharya in the Lok Sabha election on a Trinamool Congress ticket from the Birbhum constituency of West Bengal. Earlier she had won from the same constituency on a Trinamool Congress ticket in 2009, 2014, and 2019. The actress turned politician is known for delivering commercially successful Bengali films such as Lathi (1996), Sakhi Tumi Kar (1996), Bakul Priya (1997), Bidroho (1997), Chandragrahan (1997), Ranokhetro (1998), Swamir Aadesh (1998), Kalankini Badhu (2000), Sajoni Aamar Sohag (2000), Shapath Nilam (2000) and Trishul (2000). She has appeared in Bollywood films like Naya Zaher, Mulaquat and Love Story 98, etc.
8. Chirag Paswan (LJP - Hajipur)
Actor-turned-politician Chirag Paswan is a third-time Member of Parliament from Hajipur Lok Sabha constituency 2024. The earlier two times he won from the Jamui constituency. He is currently serving as a Union Cabinet Minister for Food Processing in the Modi-led NDA government at the center. His solitary appearance as a lead was in the 2011 Tanveer Khan-directed film, Miley Naa Miley Hum co-starring Kangana Ranaut.
9. Manoj Tiwari (BJP - Northeast Delhi)
Another Bhojpuri and Bollywood actor who made headlines in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections was Manoj Tiwari who fought on a BJP ticket from Northeast Delhi to beat Congress candidate Kanhaiya Kumar. The actor and playback singer retained the Northeast Delhi Lok Sabha seat by a margin of 138,778 votes. Besides, Bhojpuri movies, he is known for appearing in Hindi movies such as Indian, 23rd March 1931: Shaheed, Desh Drohi, Lucknow Central, etc.
