Cameos and guest appearances have been a part of Bollywood films since the 40s when notable stars came in a ‘blink and a miss’ appearance which mostly went unnoticed by audiences. Slowly and steadily, cameos by real-life stars started to gather momentum and a few filmmakers thought of it as an added attraction for their films. Getting some of Bollywood’s real-life stars together on screen in one frame is no mean feat that has been achieved by a few filmmakers. There have been a handful of Bollywood films, which had a hoard of celebrity stars making guest appearances in a scene or a song. Let us look at 12 such popular Bollywood movies with multiple cameo appearances in the past.
1. Kala Bazar (1960)
Director Vijay Anand’s Kala Bazar probably features among the first Bollywood movies with multiple cameos. The audiences got to see a hoard of real-life Bollywood stars attending the premiere of Mehboob Khan’s Mother India in the film. Dev Anand who plays a black marketeer in the film is shown selling the film’s tickets outside the theatre where the real-life premiere footage of the film Mother India was inserted, thereby serving as an added attraction for fans which showed the likes of Dilip Kumar, Nargis, Guru Dutt, Geeta Dutt, Rajendra Kumar, Sohrab Modi, Kishore Kumar, Mohammad Rafi, Lata Mangeshkar, and many more stars.
2. Guddi (1971)
Come to think of Bollywood films with multiple cameo appearances by stars then who can forget Hrishikesh Mukherjee’s Jaya Bhaduri starrer Guddi? Guddi had some memorable cameos by then-Bollywood stars including Amitabh Bachchan’s shot from Parwana and Rajesh Khanna's from Anand. The movie was about a teenage girl Guddi (played by Jaya Bhaduri) who is infatuated with real-life film star Dharmendra. Besides Dharmendra playing himself in the film a whole lot of star cameos one got to see in the form of Pran, Vinod Khanna, Ashok Kumar, Dilip Kumar, Mala Sinha, Biswajeet, Om Prakash, and others.
3. Chala Murari Hero Banne (1977)
Comedian turned director Asrani’s Chala Murari Hero Banne also features among Bollywood films with multiple cameos by real-life stars. The story of the movie revolved around a struggling actor named Murari (played by Asrani) who makes it big as a Bollywood actor and is shown performing alongside a whole lot of actors during film shoots. The multiple cameos comprised of actors like Dharmendra, Hema Malini, Premnath, Amitabh Bachchan, Ashok Kumar, Rishi Kapoor, Neetu Singh, Sunil Dutt, Kishore Kumar, Nasir Hussain, Helen, etc.
4. Naseeb (1981)
If there was a list of the top 10 Bollywood films with multiple cameo appearances then Manmohan Desai’s multi-starrer Naseeb could easily qualify for the list. The blockbuster film had a song sung by Mohd. Rafi and lip-synced by Amitabh Bachchan, ‘John Jani Janardhan’ that saw Bollywood stars attending the Golden Jubilee celebration of Dharam-Veer movie. The song had cameo appearances by many Bollywood actors playing themselves including Raj Kapoor, Shammi Kapoor, Randhir Kapoor, Dharmendra, Rajesh Khanna, Rakesh Roshan, Vijay Arora, Waheeda Rehman, Sharmila Tagore, Mala Sinha, Bindu, Simi Garewal, Simple Kapadia and Prema Narayan.
5. Pehla Nasha (1993)
Ashutosh Gowariker’s directorial debut Pehla Nasha starring Deepak Tijori, Raveena Tandon, and Pooja Bhatt also boasted of having cameo appearances by real-life Bollywood stars such as Aamir Khan, Rahul Roy, Shah Rukh Khan, Juhi Chawla, Sudesh Berry, and Saif Ali Khan who are seen gathered at an event in the film. This probably is the only film in which Aamir Khan, Shah Rukh Khan, and Saif Ali Khan shared screen space.
6. Om Shanti Om (2007)
Farah Khan’s Om Shanti Om starring Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Padukone, and Arjun Rampal was based on a reincarnation revenge drama theme that had two cameo appearances. The first was the awards function where Om Kapoor (played by Shah Rukh Khan) wins the Best Actor trophy and is attended by Amitabh Bachchan, Subhash Ghai, Rishi Kapoor, Akshay Kumar, Abhishek Bachchan, Karan Johar, Hrithik Roshan, etc. The second time was the song ‘Deewangi Deewangi’ which yet again saw many stars making a cameo including Dharmendra, Salman Khan, Sanjay Dutt, Saif Ali Khan, Jeetendra, Mithun Chakraborty, Govinda, Arbaaz Khan, Rekha, Shabana Azmi, Rani Mukerji, Shilpa Shetty, Preity Zinta, and many others.
7. Heyy Babyy (2007)
Sajid Khan’s full-fledged directorial debut film Heyy Babyy starring Akshay Kumar, Fardeen Khan, Riteish Deshmukh, and Vidya Balan, had some of the top actresses of Bollywood grooving to the title song of the film that was ‘Heyy Babyy’. The song which featured the three male leads including Akshay Kumar, Riteish Deshmukh, and Fardeen Khan had cameos by Malaika Arora, Celina Jaitly, Minissha Lamba, Amrita Rao, Tara Sharma, Neha Dhupia, Dia Mirza, Ameesha Patel, Sophie Choudhry, Koena Mitra, Riya Sen, Amrita Arora, and Shamita Shetty, etc.
8. Luck By Chance (2009)
Zoya Akhtar’s directorial debut Luck By Chance, starring Farhan Akhtar and Konkona Sen Sharma which tells the story of a struggling actor also features in the top 10 Bollywood films that had cameo appearances by many famous Bollywood stars. The film featured cameos by Hrithik Roshan, Saif Ali Khan, Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan, Abhishek Bachchan, Akshaye Khanna, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Rani Mukerji, Karan Johar, Manish Malhotra, Ranbir Kapoor, John Abraham, Vivek Oberoi, Rajkumar Hirani, Boman Irani, and Anurag Kashyap.
9. Bombay Talkies (2013)
Bombay Talkies was an anthology made in commemoration of celebrating the 100th year of Indian cinema. The film comprised of four short stories directed by Karan Johar, Dibakar Banerjee, Zoya Akhtar, and Anurag Kashyap. The end of the film had a song ‘Apna Bombay Talkies’ that included top stars of Bollywood such as Aamir Khan, Madhuri Dixit, Karisma Kapoor, Akshay Kumar, Juhi Chawla, Saif Ali Khan, Rani Mukerji, Sridevi, Priyanka Chopra, Vidya Balan, Kareena Kapoor, Ranveer Singh, Anil Kapoor, Ranbir Kapoor, Deepika Padukone, and Shah Rukh Khan.

Hey Bro directed by Ajay Chandhok starred Ganesh Acharya, Maninder Singh, Nupur Sharma, and Hanif Hilal. This lesser-known action comedy also had a few top Bollywood stars making guest appearances by featuring in a song called ‘Birju’ where one got to watch dances by the likes of Amitabh Bachchan, Govinda, Ajay Devgn, Hrithik Roshan, Akshay Kumar, Ranveer Singh, and Prabhudeva, etc.
11. Zero (2018)
Director Aanand L. Rai’s romantic comedy-drama Zero starring Shah Rukh Khan, Anushka Sharma, and Katrina Kaif was one of the last but not the least Bollywood films to feature a whole lot of cameos by stars. Some of the big stars who appeared were Salman Khan, Rani Mukerji, Karisma Kapoor, Kajol, Sridevi, Juhi Chawla, Deepika Padukone, Alia Bhatt, Arjun Kapoor, Jaya Bachchan, Javed Jaffery, etc. These cameos were believed to be a mark of respect to all the female stars who shared screen space with Shah Rukh Khan in different films.

Director Ashu Trikha’s Akshay Kapoor – Dia Mirza starrer Alag is the last but not the least movie to have a good bunch of real-life Bollywood stars appear in cameos. The song ‘Sabse Alag’ when appears on the screen one gets to see the likes of Shah Rukh Khan, Abhishek Bachchan, Bobby Deol, Sushmita Sen, Lara Dutta, Bipasha Basu, Preity Zinta, Priyanka Chopra, Arjun Rampal and Karan Johar make a special appearance.
