Anup Ghoshal was a well-known playback singer and composer for Bengali, Hindi Assamese and Bhojpuri films. He learnt classical music from Pt. Sukhendu Goswami and later became the topper in MA classical music at Rabindra Bharati University in Kolkata. He was best known for the song ‘Tujhse Naraaz Nahin Zindagi’ from Masoom 1983 and Bengali hit songs for Satyajit Ray’s musicals, Goopy Gyne Bagha Byne (The Adventures of Goopy and Bagha, 1969) and Hirak Rajar Deshe (Kingdom of Diamonds, 1980). His other famous Bengali songs as a playback singer include Fuleswari, Marjina Abdalla and Chhadmabeshi. He breathed his last on 15 December 2023 in Kolkata after suffering from multiple organ failures.
