Kuku Kohli was a director, actor, editor and screenwriter known for his contribution to mainstream Hindi cinema during the 1990s and early 2000s. He began his career as an assistant director to Raj Kapoor and Rahul Rawail before making his directorial debut with Kohraam in 1991 and later in the same year directed the superhit Phool Aur Kaante, starring Ajay Devgn and Madhoo. He went on to direct successful films such as Suhaag (1994), Haqeeqat (1995), Anari No.1 (1999), Zulmi (1999), Yeh Dil Aashiqanaa (2002) and Woh Tera Naam Tha (2004). Known for blending romance, action, drama, and family emotions, Kohli played an important role in shaping commercial Bollywood cinema of his era. His films are remembered for their popular music, engaging storytelling, and memorable performances. He was married to actress Aruna Irani. He died on 25 August 2026.
