Mrinal Sen was one of Indian cinema’s well-known writer, producer and director who was not only famous in Hindi but also Bengali and Oriya cinema. He made his directorial debut in 1956 with the Bangla film Raat Bhore that featured Uttam Kumar. He directed critically acclaimed movies in Bollywood like Bhuvan Shome, Ek Adhuri Kahani, Khandhar, Ek Din Achanak, etc. He was the recipient of the Padma Bhushan as well as Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 1983 and 2003, respectively.
