Sitara Devi was an Indian actress, singer, and dancer, who was one of the best Indian Kathak dancers. She is the recipient of several awards including the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award (1969), Padma Shri (1973), and Kalidas Samman (1995). She has acted in movies like Devdas (1935), Holi (1940), Aaj Ka Hindustan (1940), Roti (1942), Aabroo (1943), Najma (1943), Phool (1945) and Nagina (1951). Sitara Devi married four times. Her first husband was Mr. Desai. Her second marriage was to famous actor-director Nazir Ahmed Khan, which was Nazir’s second marriage too. Her third husband was famous filmmaker K. Asif, who is known for directing the legendary film, Mughal-e-Azam (1960). Her last marriage was to a Gujarati man Pratap Barot and the couple had a son Ranjit Barot, who grew up to become a music composer and director.
