Uttam Kumar was an Indian film actor, filmmaker, singer, and composer. He was also known as 'Mahanayak' for earning critical and commercial success throughout his career. He started his career with the Bengali film Drishtidan (1948), which was followed by his several successful Bengali films. He appeared in supporting roles in many Bollywood movies like Amanush (1975), Kitaab (1977), Anand Ashram (1977), Doooriyan (1984), Plot No. 5 (1981), Desh Premee (1982), and Mera Karam Mera Dharam (1987). In 1941, he married Gauri Chatterjee, and later in 1963, he took actress Supriya Devi as his second wife.
