Vyjayanthimala is an actress, dancer, and politician who dominated the silver screen in the 50s and 60s which is considered the Golden Age of Hindi cinema. She made her acting debut at the age of 16 in the Tamil film Vaazhkai in 1949 and followed it up with the Telugu film Jeevitham in 1950. Her first film in Hindi was Bahar (1951), which was followed by the romantic fantasy film Nagin (1954). Her other notable works have been in films like Devdas (1955), New Delhi (1956), Naya Daur (1957), Aasha (1957), Sadhna (1958), Madhumati (1958), Gunga Jumna (1961), and Sangam (1964). She is the recipient of several popular states and national awards besides the Padma Shri in 1968. She married Dr. Chamanlal Bali in 1968 and quit films thereafter. Her son Suchindra Bali made his acting debut in the 2003 film Aanch.
