Basant is a romantic musical drama starring Mumtaz Shanti in the lead for the role of Uma. The movie tells the story of Uma and her brother Babul (Mumtaz Ali) who dream of becoming singing and dancing stars, soon they attract the attention of a big producer. Uma goes on to marry Nirmal, the spoilt younger brother of this producer, who abandons Uma and their little girl. Uma takes to stage, seeing this Nirmal abducts their child. With the long and unhappy stage stardom of Uma, the movie finally ends with the reunion of the family.
