Madhubala was one of the best actresses of Indian cinema, who was noted for her mesmerizing beauty and unique acting style. She rose to fame and ruled the silver screen for two decades and was one of the top heroines of her time. She made her acting debut in Bollywood as a child artist in the 1942 romantic drama Basant. As an adult, she appeared in the lead role in the 1947 film Neel Kamal, directed by Kidar Sharma. The movie that established her as the Bollywood superstar was the 1949 horror drama Mahal, in which she appeared alongside legendary actor Ashok Kumar. Her other notable works include Dulari (1949), Beqasoor (1950), Sangdil (1952), Amar (1954), Mr. & Mrs. ’55 (1955), Shirin Farhad (1956), Gateway of India (1957), Yahudi Ki Ladki (1957) and many more. She married the legendary actor and singer Kishore Kumar in 1960, however, for much of her married life, she suffered from chronic illness, which led to her untimely death in 1969 at the age of 36.
