Gumraah is a crime thriller and a remake of the Tamil film Thadam (2019). The story revolves around Inspector Shivani Mathur (Mrunal Thakur) who is assigned to investigate a young man’s murder. The murder investigation takes an unexpected turn when it leads her to two suspects who appear to be identical (Aditya Roy Kapur) who escape using the court's ruling, even though they were in conflict with one another. Things become more complicated for Shivani when she uncovers new facts about the case.
