Homebound is a story set in a small town in North India where two childhood friends, Mohammed Shoaib Ali (Ishaan Khatter) and Chandan Kumar (Vishal Jethwa), reside. Chandan belongs to the backward caste, while Shoaib is from the minority community. Both have faced discrimination all their lives and decide to take the police recruitment exam to earn respect and better earnings. While on the way to the centre, they meet Sudha Bharti (Janhvi Kapoor), who’s also from a lower caste. Chandan and Sudha fall for each other and start a relationship. The delay in the exam results of the police recruitment leads to Shoaib and Chandan taking up jobs with the former as a peon in a sales company and the latter enrolling in a college to complete his graduation. One day, the police recruitment result finally arrives, and their lives change, for better and for worse. What happens next forms the rest of the plot.
