Lootera is a romantic musical drama inspired by O. Henry’s short story, The Last Leaf. It is set in the year 1953 and revolves around Pakhi Roy Chaudhary (Sonakshi Sinha), an aspiring writer and the daughter of a landlord. One day, Pakhi bumps into Varun Srivastav (Ranveer Singh), an archaeologist who wants to study the land surrounding the temple that Pakhi’s father owns. The two fall in love with each other. However, Pakhi is unaware about the truth about Varun's hiding and his intention behind the area of the temple. By the time Pakhi learns about it is too late as their relationship turns sour for years till Varun enters her life again.
