Margarita with a straw is a romance drama. The movie revolves around a rebellious teenager with cerebral palsy, Laila Kapoor (Kalki Koechlin), who is a student at Delhi University. Laila aspires to be a writer and her dream comes true when she gets a scholarship to study a semester at New York University. She moves to Greenwich Village, Manhattan with her mother. She meets a young activist named Khunam (Sayani Gupta), a blind girl, and she is impressed by her independent personality. Laila is also attracted to a young attractive man named Jared (William Moseley), in her university. The journey helps Laila to rediscover herself and her sexuality.
