Mr. and Mrs. Iyer is an English-language romantic drama. The movie revolves around Meenakshi S. Iyer (Konkona Sen), a Tamil Brahmin woman, and Jehangir ‘Raja’ Chowdhury (Rahul Bose), a Muslim man. The two get acquainted while travelling in a bus which gets stuck in the traffic jam due to the carnage of the communal riots in India. As Meenakshi belongs to a high caste Hindu Brahmin family, she is initially disgusted by Raja, as he is Muslim. However, when a rioting Hindu mob forcibly enters the bus and interrogates the passengers of their religious identity, Meenakshi protects Raja by pretending to be his wife and informing the mob that he is Hindu. They continue posing like husband and wife in order to stay alive. Will the two be able to continue pretending this act, or be caught by someone?
