Phillauri is a fantasy romantic horror-comedy movie that revolves around a young man Kanan (Suraj Sharma) born under an unlucky star. He must marry a tree first to ward off the bad luck before marrying his fiancée Anu (Mehreen Pirzada). He is surprised when a spirit named Shashi (Anushka Sharma) starts following him and calling him her husband post his marriage to the tree. Shashi informs him that she used to haunt the tree he married and he is now married to her. After learning Shashi’s story, Kanan wants to help Shashi to ascend to heaven and be free but not before the latter reveals her past and why she hasn’t proceeded to the heavenly abode.
