Swades is a social rural drama. The movie revolves around Mohan (Shah Rukh Khan), an Indian emigrant employed with NASA. Mohan initially came to the U.S. for studies, however, continued staying there after the death of his parents in a car accident. Years later, Mohan travels to India to track down his beloved nanny Kaveri Amma (Kishori Ballal), who was sent to an old age home in Delhi after the death of Mohan’s parents. On reaching the old age home, he learns that Kaveri Amma no longer lives there and has moved to a village named Charanpur, Uttar Pradesh. Mohan sets out for Charanpur in hopes of finding Kaveri Amma. During his stay in the village, Mohan grows close to the villagers and finds himself helping them in reforming the village and improving the lifestyle of the villagers. Was Mohan’s visit to the village destined to help these villagers have a better life?
