Tere Ishk Mein revolves around Shankar Gurukkal (Dhanush), the president of DUSU, a notorious student known for his rebellious, violent nature. Mukti Behniwal (Kriti Sanon) is a PhD student in the same university who while presenting her thesis, makes the case that, with the right care, any aggressive man may completely change into a peaceful, nonviolent person. At this moment, Shankar shows up at the location and starts making trouble while trying to pursue a student. This incident is used by the professors to prove that some guys are unreformable. Mukti decides to change him on her own. The professors promise to pass her thesis if she succeeds. Shankar initially shows no interest but eventually gives in. Shankar quickly develops a strong romantic attachment to her. Mukti finishes her PhD, and he also modifies his behavior for her. This is when reality strikes Shankar about Mukti’s feelings for him. He decides to turn the world upside down. 7 years later, they meet again. What happens next forms the rest of the film.
