Toilet: Ek Prem Katha takes up the grave issue of India's sanitation based on the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan initiative which addresses the lack of toilets for women. Set in the town of Mathura, Uttar Pradesh, the film based on true events is a simple love story between Keshav (Akshay Kumar) and progressive Jaya (Bhumi Pednekar), who despite obstacles get married. But Jaya gets a shock when she realizes that there's no toilet for women in Keshav's village near Mathura. Jaya vows only to return back if Keshav builds a toilet for her at home. All this leads to Keshav turning the sanitation issue for women into a revolution.
