Deb Mukherjee was a popular actor, producer and director of the 60s, 70s and 80s who primarily worked in Hindi films. Born in Kanpur in 1941, Deb Mukherjee was the son of late producer Sashadhar Mukherjee, the owner of Filmayala studios who was the brother-in-law of late actor Ashok Kumar. His brothers were actor Joy Mukherjee and filmmakers Shomu Mukherjee and Rono Mukherjee. He started his acting career by playing the lead role in his brother Rono Mukherjee’s film ‘Tu Hi Meri Zindagi’ in 1965. He thereafter acted in popular films including ‘Ansoo Ban Gaye Phool’, ‘Sambandh’, ‘Adhikar’, ‘Main Tulsi Tere Aangan Ki’, ‘Haiwan’, ‘Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar’, ‘Dalaal’, ‘Kaminey’, etc. He directed and produced the action-thriller 'Karate' in 1983. He breathed his last on 14 March 2025.
