Jaddanbai was an Indian singer, music composer, filmmaker, and actress. She was one of the first female music composers of Indian cinema. Jaddanbai’s mother, Daleepabai was a courtesan, who was a renowned dancer and singer. She later became a more famous courtesan than her mother and recorded and composed many ghazals. She composed music for movies like Talashe Haq (1935), Madam Fashion (1936), Hriday Manthan (1936), Moti Ka Haar (1937) and Jeevan Swapna (1937). She married thrice, her first husband Narottamdas Khatri was a wealthy Gujarati businessman and they had a son, Akhtar Hussain. Her second marriage was to Ustaad Irshad Meer Khan, with whom she had a son, actor Anwar Hussain. She then married a wealthy man named Mohanchand Uttamchand and they became parents to actress Nargis.
