Pankaj Udhas was a popular musician, composer, ghazal and playback singer in Hindi language film. He began his musical career by composing and singing ghazals for private albums in the 80s including ‘Aahat’, ‘Mukarar’, ‘Tarrannum’, ‘Mehfil’, etc. Later he got his big break in films as a playback singer in director Mahesh Bhatt’s ‘Naam’ in 1986 by singing the hit song 'Chitthi Aayi Hai', and 'Chaandi Jaisa Rang Hai' (Ek Hi Maqsad), Aaj Phir Tumpe (Dayavan), Jeeyein To Jeeyein Kaise (Saajan), Na Kajre Ki Dhaar (Mohra) and others. He was a recipient of many awards including the Padmashri in 2006. He breathed his last on 26 February 2024 in Mumbai at the age of 72 due to a prolonged illness.
