Born in Kolhapur in the state of Maharashtra, Ramesh Deo was an actor, director, and producer who primarily worked in Marathi as well as Hindi films. He made his acting debut in a cameo in the 1951 Marathi film Paatlaachi Por which was followed by another Marathi movie Andhala Magto Ek Dola in 1956 that was directed by Raja Paranjape. His first Hindi film was Baap Bete in 1959 that was followed by Aarti released in 1962 which got him noticed. In his six-decade-long career, he acted in more than 285 Hindi films and 190 Marathi films besides Marathi dramas. He shared screen space with many top Bollywood stars like Amitabh Bachchan, Rajesh Khanna, Shashi Kapoor, Sunil Dutt, Shatrughan Sinha, Vinod Khanna, and many others. He had also acted in many television serials and directed quite a few films, documentaries, and television serials. He received many state and national awards for his work including the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 11th Pune International Film Festival (PIFF) in 2013. Some of his memorable films were Dus Lakh (1966), Anand (1971), Mere Apne (1971), Hulchul (1971), Kasauti (1974), Khud-Daar (1982), Jolly LLB (2013), etc. He breathed his last in 2022 at the age of 93 and is survived by his actress wife Seema Deo, actor son Ajinkya Deo and filmmaker son Abhinay Deo.
