Cherukuri Ramoji Rao was a prominent entrepreneur, media proprietor and film producer who owned and headed the world's largest film production facility Ramoji Film City. He produced several multi-language films under his film production banner Usha Kiran Movies. He started his film career as producer by producing two Telugu films ‘Srivariki Premalekha’ and ‘Kanchana Ganga’ in 1984. Besides primarily producing films in Telugu he also made films in Malayalam, Bengali, Kannada, Tamil and Hindi including flicks such as ‘Nache Mayuri’ (1986), ‘Pratighaat’ (1987), ‘Tujhe Meri Kasam’ (2003), ‘Thoda Tum Badlo Thoda Hum’ (2004) and others. He won four Filmfare Awards South, five Nandi Awards and the National Film Award for his works in Telugu cinema. He was also honoured with the Padma Vibhushan in 2016 for his contributions in journalism, literature and education. He breathed his last on 08 June 2024 in Hyderabad.
