Sharda was a veteran playback singer and music director of the 60s and 70s who was active in Hindi, Telugu, Marathi, English, and Gujarati languages. Known for her unique vocals, she was given her first break by music directors Shankar – Jaikishan in Gumnaam in 1965 but got recognition by singing Title Udi from Suraj in 1966. She majorly sang for Shankar – Jaikishan and had the privilege to associate with esteemed singers like Mohammad Rafi, Asha Bhosle, Kishore Kumar, Mukesh, Suman Kalyanpur, and sang for popular actresses such as Vyjayanthimala, Saira Banu, Hema Malini, Sharmila Tagore, Mumtaz, and Helen on-screen. Some of her well-known hits have been ‘Jaan-e-Chaman Shola Badan’ (Gumnaam), ‘Chale Jaana Zara Thhahro’ (Around The World), ‘Woh Pari Kahan Se Laoon’ (Pehchan) and ‘Baat Zara Hai Aapas Ki’ (Jahan Pyar Miley – 1969). She turned music director with Maa Bahen Aur Biwi, Tu Meri Main Tera, Kshitij, Mandir Masjidand Maila Aanchal. The veteran playback singer passed away due to cancer at the age of 85.
