Cirkus is a romantic comedy-drama based on William Shakespeare's play The Comedy of Errors. The story begins in the year 1942 when brothers Dr. Roy Jamnadas (Murli Sharma) and Joy Jamnadas (Uday Tikekar) run the Jamnadas Orphanage where they have two sets of orphaned twin kids who are handed over to two families for adoption. The first set of twins is adopted by an Ooty couple who run the Jubilee Circus while the other set is adopted by the Shenoy’s of Bangalore. Thirty years later both kids grow up with the same names, Roy (Ranveer Singh in a double role) and Joy (Varun Sharma in a double role). Roy # 1 and Joy # 1 run the Jubilee Circus after the death of their foster parents where the former is known as the 'electric man' who performs electricity-based stunts without getting electrocuted. Roy # 1 is married to Mala (Pooja Hegde), who is desperate to start a family but is unable to conceive. Meanwhile, Roy # 2 (Ranveer Singh) and Joy # 2 (Varun Sharma) is based in Bangalore and Roy # 2 is dating Bindu (Jacqueline Fernandez). Bindu’s father Rai Bahadur (Sanjay Mishra) happens to visit Ooty where he sees Roy # 1 with Mala and concludes that Roy # 2 is cheating on his daughter. Roy # 2 and Joy # 2 decide to go to Ooty but what awaits them is a series of confusion and problems that forms the remaining part of this comedy drama.
